The project involves excavations to deepen a 10-kilometer stretch, with underwater dismantling of 550,000 cubic meters of rock in the bed of the Tiet\u00ea River. The contract was signed on the 17th, with an investment of BRL 300 million and the work is expected to be completed by the first half of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resulting from a partnership between the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) and the State Government of S\u00e3o Paulo, the work will allow the traffic of vessels with a draft of 3.5 meters. In addition, the expansion of the channel will guarantee navigation to the waterway sector, even at lower levels, in the Ilha Solteira and Tr\u00eas Irm\u00e3os reservoirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The possibility of traveling with lower quotas in these reservoirs will also provide the electricity sector with an additional 4.1 billion cubic meters of water for generating electricity or storing it in headwater reservoirs \u2013 the volume is equivalent to 24% of the Furnas Plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the undertaking should generate more than 3,000 new jobs during the execution of the works. Upon completion, it will be possible to connect production areas to seaports, serving the main centers of Mercosur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of the channel will generate a movement of 7 million tons through the Tiet\u00ea-Paran\u00e1 waterway, representing a reduction of approximately 200 thousand trucks on the highways per year.
